AS Evaluation - Research and Planning
How did your research into genre help you with your production?
How did your research into audience contribute to your production work?
How did your research into institutions responsible for the production and regulation of the media influence your production work?
What pre-production planning techniques did you employ (scripting, storyboarding, shot-listing, etc.)?
How effective was your planning – how did it help you in the production phase?
What did you learn from planning your first production that helped you to improve your planning for the second?
My research into genre helped me during the production process of my AS coursework, because it meant that I knew what features to include and what should probably be left. Overall it helped me create a more realistic and professional product. Also it meant that the genre of my coursework was clear.
How did your research into audience contribute to your production work?
My research into the rock genre meant that I could pick out the best features and leave out the features that my target audience did not like. Researching into my audience also gave me an idea as to what information I should try and include withing the magazine. To carry out my research I used techniques like questionnaires, so that I could collate data quickly and efficiently.
How did your research into institutions responsible for the production and regulation of the media influence your production work?
This research influenced my work because it meant that I knew the standard of work that i was trying to achieve and gave me a goal to work towards. It also showed me what can and cannot be featured in a magazine.
What pre-production planning techniques did you employ (scripting, storyboarding, shot-listing, etc.)?
I didn't use any pre-production planning techniques really, this is because I began to run out of time and needed to get on and start to produce some work. It has taught me that these techniques are useful because they help develop ideas and also help you keep to a schedule.
How effective was your planning – how did it help you in the production phase?
My planning was alright but could of perhaps been better. This is because it wasn't in as greater detail as it should have been. This had a knock on effect to the production phase as it meant that it became rushed.
What did you learn from planning your first production that helped you to improve your planning for the second?
My planning from last time has taught me that it is vital because otherwise the whole operation can become rushed or deadlines can be missed.
How did you use audience feedback to influence your production work while it was in progress?
My audience feedback encouraged me to try and change things around and create a unique feature. It also helped me get rid of the bits that were letting the whole thing down.

Prelim Evaluation Question 5
From this task I have learnt that planning is a very important part to ensuring that the project is done to the best possible standard and that it is actually completed on time. I have also learnt that smaller numbers for a group would be more productive because there would be less disagreements and will be more focused upon the task. This will help with my advanced portfolio because it means that I will think carefully about the group size and the planning of the project, instead of just wanting to crack on and start filming.
Prelim Evaluation Question 4
The research aspect of our music video was quite successful, this was because everyone was still really keen at the beginning and so was very eager to research the different aspects of the existing music videos. However, the planning aspect of the project wasn't so successful because when it came down to actually filming the music video everyone was disorganized and perhaps not as focused as we should have been. So in hindsight, the planning of the project could have been better, I think that if a leader for the filming section of the project was elected then everything would have gone a lot more smoothly. Also another negative aspect of the project was the lack of number of actors. This was a problem because it meant that we had to use some people more than once, which meant that our video didn't look as professional as it could have done. In future projects I think that it would be a good idea to have less people in a group, this is because decisions would be made quicker and without all of the arguing. It would of been better if there had been a team leader because no one really knew who to listen to.
Prelim Evaluation Question 3
One of the difficulties that were ran into was when we were unable to playback parts of our music video whilst still filming. This was a problem because it meant that we were unsure whether or not we needed another take. What I have learnt from this accident is that before I start filming it is vital to check that the video camera is in full working order and can preform as we need it to.
We also encountered difficulties when trying to upload what we had filmed on the iPhone on to the Apple iMac, because of this the editing process took a bit longer than it actually should have done. This has taught me that before starting a problem I should check that I am using is compatible with one another.
Our timing schedule was also another issue, because we said that we would try and get the filming done on a single day. But, this was an issue because it meant that whilst filming everything was quite pressured. This mistake has taught me that it is vital to try and spread the work load across several days.

Prelim Evaluation Question 2
What technology did you use to complete the task and how did you use it?

Prelim Evaluation Question 1
What have you learnt about the importance of research and
planning?
I have learnt that research and planning is a vital part of
any new project. Research is an important part of the project to complete
properly because it helps you keep to the correct codes and conventions of
music videos. It can also tell you what has been done before and what could be
an original idea. The research part of this task was to decide on the music
video that we were going to recreate as a group. We chose ‘Fancy’ by Iggy
Azalea. We chose to recreate this video as it was based in a school and had
props and costumes that were easily accessible to us.
The planning part of any task is used to ensure that
everything gets done on time and gets done properly. We used our time to plan the camera shots and
timing of the music video. We created lists with all the information we had
collated to help ensure that the music video was filmed and edited on time.
